It’s uncommon to see Nintendo first party games discounted so quickly, so if you’re interested, jump on these deals quickly, because it’s unsure how long they’ll last. As of this posting, they’re all available for shipping, and at least in my area, for in-store pickup at a number of stores.

Clad in a green Luigi hat, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata announced a number of new titles, as well as highlighted some soon-to-be-released titles as well as recent releases.

After announcing the Year of Luigi, Mr. Iwata showed off some gameplay footage of Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, which is set for release on March 24. The footage detailed both the single player and multiplayer modes, both of which are looking quite compelling. After that, he showed a couple of new titles featuring the man in green, including a new 3DS entry in the Mario & Luigi series, and a new Mario Golf.

Mario & Luigi: Dream Team takes place in the sleeping mind of Luigi. Throughout the sub-series, Luigi has been portrayed as a bit less courageous than his brother, but in his dream, he can be the brave hero he’s always wanted to be. Mario Golf: World Tour, from Camelot, was also announced. Both games are expected to launch this summer.

Moving away from the Luigi theme, Nintendo announced a number of upcoming eShop titles, including a sequel to one of last year’s eShop titles in Dillon’s Rolling Western: The Last Ranger (coming April 11), a spinoff of a spinoff in Mario and Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move (coming soon), and a brand new title in Kersploosh! (coming March 7). They also confirmed the release dates for HarmoKnight (March 28) and a demo (March 14), as well as revealed that the GameBoy Color games Harvest Moon and Legend of the River King will be hitting the Virtual Console soon.

Following last year’s rumors of a 3DS Donkey Kong entry, Nintendo announced Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, a port of the 2010 Wii title from Retro Studios. The game will feature a full 3D makeover that enhances the graphics, and you can see it for yourself in an eShop trailer right now. The game is expected to launch this summer.

Finally, Nintendo announced a weekly sale on eShop games, starting with Bit.Trip Saga (right now), and in the coming weeks, Crashmo, Ketzal’s Corridors, Sakura Samurai: Art of the Sword, Fractured Soul, and Mutant Mudds will all enjoy a temporarily reduced price. They also announced a promotion for new 3DS XL purchasers. If you buy a 3DS XL and either Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon or Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity, and register them on Club Nintendo by April 30, they’ll give you a free game download from the following choices: Super Mario 3D Land, Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask, StarFox 64 3D, Art Academy: Lessons for Everyone!, or FreakyForms Deluxe: Your Creations, Alive!

If this Nintendo Direct is any indication, the 3DS is in for a killer 2013.

The video unveiled the next generation of Pokemon games, dubbed X and Y, coming soon to 3DS. The games will feature brand new fully 3D graphics (both polygonal and stereoscopic), and of course plenty of new Pokemon. The ones that have been revealed so far are the starting choices: grass-type Chespin, fire-type Fennekin, and water-type Froakie. Unlike previous games in the series that have suffered long delays between releases in different regions, localization is happening concurrently with development and the games will be released worldwide simultaneously in October 2013. Check out the Pokemon Direct announcement video above.

This game will be released in Japan on February 7th, 2013. There is still no confirmation date for a western release.

Art books are always a great thing to have, so pre-order soon while supplies last!

This game will be available in North America on February 4th, 2013.

Jake Kaufman’s OST for Hey Ice King! was a highlight of the game, and while D3 and Cartoon Network haven’t released it as a download, you can totally stream it from the interwebs for free right into your computer box’s speakers.

Originally released for the Saturn in 1997, Soul Hackers is the sequel to 1995’s Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner, neither of which were released outside of Japan. Although both games share a name with the Devil Summoner titles for PlayStation 2 (both of which were released outside Japan), they play quite differently and have no ties (which only worsens the somewhat byzantine nature of the Shin Megami Tensei series for westerners).

The first person dungeon crawler features turn based combat and dozens of demons with which to negotiate contracts, including 30 new demons for the 3DS version. The 3DS version also includes faster load times, a new animated intro and new music from series composer Shoji Meguro.

One of my favorite games of all time, Oddworld Inhabitants’ Stranger’s Wrath is a third person action adventure game that seamlessly transitions to a first person shooter. And the keyword here is seamlessly. Complete emphasis on the lack of seams.

As the Stranger, you take bounties on ruthless criminals. Not only do you need to hunt for your quarry, you need to hunt for your ammo too, which is made up of living creatures. It’s something a bit strange, but it’s a blast and unlike anything else.

If you have a Vita, and you’ve never played Stranger’s Wrath, it’s criminal to not download this gem for a mere $15.

Starting with Mega Man 1 on December 27th, the rest of the releases will be staggered through 2013.

Capcom also promises more Mega Man news and products next year, which is great and all, but can we please just have Mega Man Legends 3? I’m pretty sure the 3DS is a reasonable success now and it’s probably a safe bet.

It’s always interesting to look back and see what games and consoles were advertised, and for what prices. Old fogies know handheld games have usually been about $20 to $35, as they often are now (with only a more recent bump to $40), despite the cries that handheld games are just now suddenly too expensive. And it’s not just the handhelds either; the Genesis and SNES pages from the NeoGAF thread show games ranging from $40 to $70!

This hobby has always been a harsh mistress. Never forget that.

Demon’s Score is an action rhythm game developed by iNiS, the studio behind Elite Beat Agents. Like all other Square Enix iOS games, Demon’s Score carries a premium price tag; in this case, $7 normally. That seven bucks nets you a single demon to fight, while further costly In-App Purchases unlock other demons. Thankfully, all of the game’s IAPs are on sale as well for prices varying from $1 to $4 so you can actually cobble together a decent amount of content for only a few dollars during this sale.

And Demon’s Score is a game worth checking out. It’s pretty and fun to play, but I won’t hide the fact the initial break down of content and cost scared me off. I’m not a fan of this kind of monetization, so I was all too happy to jump on this sale myself.
